The facts

The complainant alleged his neighbour's multiple CCTV cameras, installed outside the neighbour's property and directed at the public road, captured passers-by and vehicles as well as his home, entrance, front yard and driveway, without him being informed or consulted. A Police site visit found the camera at no time showed towards the complainant's house. The complainant objected to the planned closure; the respondent's written statement with supporting evidence, consistent with the Police report, showed the cameras were not capturing inside the complainant's premises.

Orders and outcome

The Data Protection Commissioner decided that the enquiry had not disclosed the commission of an offence under the DPA and closed it to the satisfaction of all parties.
