The facts

The complainant alleged that his neighbour had, without notification, placed CCTV cameras all around her house in their common yard facing towards his house. The office required her statement, recordings, confirmation of signage and urgent repositioning of any camera capturing images beyond her premises. The respondent, a widow, cooperated and provided conclusive evidence that the cameras viewed only within her premises.

Orders and outcome

The Data Protection Commissioner held that corrective measures had been properly taken by the respondent, that no breach of the Act had been committed, and closed the enquiry to the satisfaction of all parties.
