The facts

The complainant alleged that his neighbour had fixed a CCTV camera pointing towards the road, causing prejudice to him and his family. With police assistance the office established that of the four cameras installed, two captured images outside the respondent's premises towards the road and pavement, but none captured the complainant's premises, one camera being shielded with a dark spot on his side.

Orders and outcome

The Data Protection Commissioner found no cameras collecting images relating to the complainant or his premises and held that no breach of the Data Protection Act was found. The enquiry was closed.
