The facts

The complainant alleged that his neighbour had installed two CCTV cameras pointing at his entrance and balcony. The Data Protection Office asked the Police to investigate and conduct a site visit. The Police reported that one camera had been repositioned to show only the respondent's own gate and entrance, the second had been removed, and the remaining installation captured no images inside the complainant's premises.

Orders and outcome

The Data Protection Commissioner decided that the enquiry had not disclosed the commission of an offence under the DPA and closed it to the satisfaction of all parties.
