The facts

The complainant alleged that a camera on the top storey of his neighbour's house faced his yard and property, with no sign or notice displayed. The Office told the respondent that CCTV must capture images only within his own premises and be signposted, and carried out several site visits. The respondent replaced the dome camera with a fixed camera directed only at his own premises, and the complainant confirmed he was satisfied.

Orders and outcome

No offence was found under the Data Protection Act; the camera no longer invaded the complainant's privacy and the matter closed with corrective measures verified.
