The facts

The complainant alleged that his neighbour and brother installed CCTV cameras angled towards his property, invading his privacy to the point that he could not open his kitchen. A site visit verified the recorded images and found no recording taking place outside the respondent's own premises, and the complainant gave a written declaration that the cameras were not infringing his privacy.

Orders and outcome

The enquiry found no incriminating evidence, but the respondent was required, within two months, to place a visible and legible sign near his entrance informing visitors that CCTV cameras operate for security purposes, and to confirm compliance to the office. The complaint was otherwise set aside as no offence was proven beyond reasonable doubt. Dated 25 April 2011.
