The facts

An employee complained that his manager forced him to provide fingerprint data for attendance, telling him he would not be paid at month's end if he refused, without prior information. The Office told the company that fingerprint attendance requires employee consent and that alternatives must be offered where consent is refused. The company circulated consent columns for staff to sign; the complainant, who had left the company, never replied to the Office's letter.

Orders and outcome

The enquiry was closed for want of response from the complainant, the Office recording that remedial measures were taken to its satisfaction.
