Anonymised respondent (company)
No breach established. DPO, June 2016.
The facts
A tenant complained that after a lease dispute his company was locked out of its office and could not recover a biometric lock holding fingerprints and access codes. The landlord explained the tenant had failed to fit out the premises or attend a scheduled inspection despite formal notices, and that the biometric device was removed inert and kept in safe storage untouched. The office asked the complainant to collect the device and submit any further views, but his email domain had expired and he was unreachable, with police confirming he had left the country.
Orders and outcome
The enquiry was closed as no breach of the Data Protection Act could be established, in the absence of further cooperation from the complainant. The document is an undated published summary.
