Anonymised respondent (company)
Enquiry closed for complainant non-response. DPO, 7 October 2016.
The facts
The complainant alleged that a company processed employees' biometric fingerprint data without explanation or consent, used it against the employees, and was not on the official list of registered data controllers. The Office directed the respondent to fingerprint only consenting employees and provide an alternative method for others. The respondent stated that all employees had consented in writing to the fingerprint attendance system introduced with its ERP system, that staff and unions had been informed, and that an alternative method would be provided for anyone unwilling to continue.
Orders and outcome
The enquiry was closed after the complainant failed to respond to three letters seeking his views, the Office noting that the measures in place were to its satisfaction.
