Anorld Mwaura and Alex Karanja v Mulla Pride Limited
Complaint upheld; enforcement notice issued. ODPC, 2 August 2023.
The facts
The complainants received threatening calls and messages from Mulla Pride Limited, a digital lender, about loans they knew nothing of, having been enlisted as referees without their knowledge or consent. The Office found the respondent collected their contacts from its clients and third parties rather than directly, did not inform them of the collection or that their numbers would be used for debt recovery from defaulting clients, and neglected its duty to notify.
Orders and outcome
The respondent was found liable and an enforcement notice was ordered to issue against it. Dated August 2023.
