The facts
The complainant questioned how an attorney and her sister had obtained his and his wife's birth certificate, marriage certificate and identity card copies for the issuance of a succession affidavit. The office put detailed questions to the civil status authority and to the attorney's chambers; the enquiry traced the information to co-heirs having an interest in the estate of the complainant's parents.
Orders and outcome
The Data Protection Commissioner held that the thorough enquiry established no irregularity by the respondents and that at no time was any personal information relating to the complainant obtained unlawfully or misused. The enquiry was closed.
