The facts
A college complained that a press outlet reported false and malicious information about tampering with students' marks and assessments. The office held that no individual student could be identified from the article, so it could not contain personal data, and the college produced no evidence of identifiability within the 21 days given.
Orders and outcome
No breach of the Data Protection Act could be established; the office noted that substantiated forgery or malicious denunciation would be a matter for the Commissioner of Police.
