The facts
The complainant alleged an organisation collected his or her fingerprint biometric data without written informed consent and without explaining the purpose, whether provision was mandatory, the consequences of refusal, or the possibility of deletion. The respondent later informed the Office that the complainant had resigned and the fingerprint data had been deleted; at a site visit the fingerprint machine no longer recognised the complainant's fingerprint, and the complainant raised no further issues within the deadline.
Orders and outcome
The enquiry was successfully concluded with no offence found under the Data Protection Act.
