The facts

The complainant alleged that Platinum Credit Limited sent him unsolicited promotional messages without consent, violating his right to be informed of the use to which his personal data would be put. In mitigation the Office noted the respondent's position that individuals behind some of the contacts were impersonating its brand, that it had reported the matter to the police, and that its sales and marketing manager took responsibility for the initial contact, personally apologised and deleted the complainant's number from the system.

Orders and outcome

The respondent was found liable and ordered to pay the complainant Kenya Shillings Fifty Thousand (KES 50,000) as compensation. Dated 27 July 2025.
