The facts
The complainant, a television host at Inooro TV, gospel artist and media personality, complained that Solpia Kenya Limited, trading as Sistar Kenya, unlawfully used her personal data for commercial purposes. The data was personal data she had herself made public. The respondent made no representations on her claim for compensation, and the ODPC found it liable for unlawful processing.
Orders and outcome
The respondent was found liable and directed to compensate the complainant Kshs. 500,000 for the unlawful processing of her personal data. Dated 6 January 2024.
